By , October 2, 2015 11:34 am

Beginning Monday Oct. 5, 51st Street will be closed to drive-through vehicle traffic between Brookside Boulevard and Oak Street, due to construction activity for the 51st and Oak project. This street closure will last for approximately two months.  In the picture above, Brookside Blvd is on the left, 51st Street is shown as closed, and Oak Street is on the right.

This closure will impact access to the Colonial Shops, the Oak Place Shops and Pizza 51.

Pedestrian traffic through the area will remain available. Parking access to Oak Place via the driveway on Oak Street north of 51st also remains available.

UMKC encourages faculty, staff and students to patronize our cooperative friends and neighbors in these retail centers. The university greatly appreciates their patience through this period. Roo Bucks program credits on the One Card or gift cards can be used at Sahara and Pickleman’s restaurants and at Oak Nails.

Westbound auto traffic can access the driveway between Pizza 51 and the Colonial Shops during the closure. Eastbound auto traffic can continue to access the driveway immediately west of Pride Cleaners through approximately Oct. 18. Both of these routes lead to off-street parking areas available to customers of these businesses.

Beginning Nov. 1, curbside parking on the west side of Oak Street will be unavailable until approximately May 2017.
