Tips and Tricks for your UMKC Email

By , August 26, 2013 5:18 pm

e-mailYour UMKC e-mail account is the official form of communication for all UMKC matters.  Be sure to check it regularly so you don’t miss important announcements and deadlines!  However, your e-mail account gives you more than just e-mail.  The Outlook platform gives you many options to help you stay organized and worry-free throughout your time at UMKC and beyond.  Its features give you access to all kinds of tools at the touch of a button–all you need is internet access.

Within the Mail tab, you also have access to all your contacts, a calendar, and tasks.  This is a great way to keep a to-do list and help keep track of deadlines on your course syllabus! Another feature of Mail is the ability to live chat with other people signed in.  This service, through MSN Messenger, allows you to see who is available to chat.

Within the Office tab, you have access to the Windows Sky Drive.  This allows you to store documents and pictures on the web and access them from any computer!  You can create groups and share and edit documents within the Sky Drive.  You can also create and edit documents right in the browser–no need to download them every time you want to make an update.  When you do download a document to make changes, by pressing the Save button it automatically syncs to the uploaded file and saves your changes to the document in the Sky Drive.  This is a great tool to use if you don’t always remember to grab a flash drive.

To make the most of your e-mail anywhere, sync your e-mail account to your smartphone or laptop.  There are instructions on the UMKC Information Services website.  By syncing your account, you have the ability to sync not only e-mail, but calendars, contact info, and tasks.

If you have problems accessing your e-mail account, contact the Information Services HelpDesk at 816-235-2000; press 2 to speak with a technician.

Welcome from SGA President Benjamin Campero

Welcome Back & Call to Action

Fellow Roos,

Welcome back and welcome to UMKC, I have had a great first week back on campus getting to know new and returning students alike. I am so excited about what the year has to come, from working on the issues set forth by the previous administration, including instituting a Smoke Free Policy and working toward equality in the Residence Halls with the Gender Neutral Housing Resolution that overwhelmingly passed Senate last year, and our purpose to provide an orderly method of government representative of all students that acts on the will of the majority while protecting the interest of the minority and stands for all students of the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), in all matters that concern them. SGA’s mission is to stimulate the intellectual, political, cultural, and social growth of all students and in the spirit of keeping you in the loop, there is one thing we must let you know about.

House Bill 253 (HB253) passed the Missouri Legislature last session and was sent to Governor Jay Nixon’s desk for approval. Governor Nixon vetoed the bill and it has been sent back to the legislature.

HB253 seeks to cut taxes for the wealthiest of Missourian’s Tax Payers, and slashes more than $800 million from revenue. Higher Education is unprotected by law and one of the most vulnerable places to lose if the HB 253 Veto is overridden.

If the Veto is overridden, the University has ONE option: to raise tuition for all four University of Missouri campuses. UM System President Tim Wolfe has announced that passage of this bill will necessitate anywhere from 8 to 16 percent hike in tuition for students.

This is simply unacceptable; it is time that Missouri Politicians quit playing games with the education and future of Missouri’s workforce

You can help! We ask that you call your State Representative and ask them to stand with students across Missouri and hold the Governor’s Veto.

Do not hesitate on contacting me if you have any questions, 816-235-1426 or email me at umkcsga@umkc.edu.

Your President,

Benjamin Campero
