Walk a Mile in Her Shoes 2019

By , September 16, 2019 4:51 pm

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men to walk a mile in women’s shoes. Walking in women’s shoes helps men better understand and appreciate women’s experiences, thus changing perspectives, helping improve gender relationships and decreasing the potential for violence.

Since 2007, over 1,000 people have participated in Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® at UMKC. Their participation helped raise awareness of rape, sexual assault, and gender violence, as well as funds for the UMKC Women’s Center and Violence Prevention and Response Program.

The 2019 Walk will be held on Thursday, September 19, 5:30 p.m. at the University Playhouse (51st and Holmes Streets).

New for 2019 — this event is now free to all and no registration is required!

Please note that we will have a limited number of high heels available for walkers — we encourage walkers to BYOS (bring your own shoes). People of all genders and ages are welcome to walk. Wearing high heels is encouraged, but not required.

Rain location: Jazzman’s, Student Union, 5100 Cherry Street.

Co-sponsored by: the Violence Prevention & Response Program, Office of Student Involvement, Fraternity & Sorority Affairs, LGBTQIA+ Programs & Services, Student Auxiliary Services, Residential Life, Kansas City Athletics, Division of Student Affairs, Title IX Office, Multicultural Student Affairs, Division of Diversity & Inclusion, University Advancement, MComm, University Libraries, and Student Government Association

Constitution Day 2019

By , September 5, 2019 2:00 pm

UMKC will celebrate Constitution Day on Tuesday, September 17, 2019 with an event sponsored by UMKC School of Law student organizations:  Implications and Interpretation of Birthright Citizenship.  The session is at 11.30am in the School of Law Student Lounge.

Moderated by Law School faculty and local attorneys, the session will focus on what is birthright citizenship: its importance, implications, and impacts.

Constitution Day 2019 is co-sponsored by The Federalist Society and The American Constitution Society.

Constitution Day became a recognized federal holiday in 2004, when legislation authored by Senator Robert Byrd was signed into law.  The Act mandates that all educational institutions that receive public funding provide educational programming on the history of the American Constitution on or near September 17th each year.
