2018 Annual Student Art Exhibition
April 26 – July 27, 2018
Opening Reception: Thursday April 26, 2017, 5-7PM; awards presentation at 6pm
The UMKC Gallery of Art announces the 2018 UMKC Student Art Exhibition, which runs Thursday, April 26 through Friday, July 27, 2018. The show features the work of 28 graduate and undergraduate artists. All currently enrolled students at UMKC were eligible to submit work across a variety of media, including painting, photography, sculpture, printmaking, graphic design, and video.
Please join us for the opening reception on Thursday April 26, from 5-7PM; scholarship awards will be presented during the opening reception at 6PM.
Amy Kligman served as the juror for the 2018 UMKC Art Exhibition. Kligman is the Executive/Artistic Director at the Charlotte Street Foundation.
Shae Perry, President of UMKC’s KROO College Radio Station, host of Shady 2.0 radio show, producer of the YouTube Show “SFTL.TV”, and known as ShaeFromTheLou, presents SFTL’s All Star Winning Weekend of community events, April 20 & 21, 2018.
Friday, April 20th:
- 2-3pm – we are making school supply bags for The Boy & Girls Club as a donation. We are encouraging all students, families and friends to come out to UMKC’s Student Union and participate.
- 3-4pm – we will begin our Radio Show and all those who volunteered there time will have a chance to win free hoodies and shirts from upcoming clothing lines from Kansas City and St. Louis.
Saturday, April 21st:
- 2-4pm – 2nd Annual 3-on-3 Basketball Tournament located at Swinney Recreation Center. ($2 to enter/ $1 with a canned food item)
Congratulations to the staff and writers of University News, UMKC’s independent student newspaper! The Missouri College Media Association conference took place on April 7, 2018, and the UNews took home TEN awards.
The UNews received an honorable mention for best overall newspaper and second place for best website.
In addition, 8 individual pieces were recognized:
- Melissa Wharton: second place for best news writing (“I Want to be a Teacher” Education Majors Lose Out on Credit Hours and Thousands of Dollars)
- Sam Danley: second place for best feature writing (UMKC student stuck overseas amidst international controversy)
- Zach Linhares: second place for best in-depth news reporting (UMKC officials investigating alleged sexual assault)
- Sam Danley: second place for best entertainment review (“Stupid Fucking Bird” might just leave you speechless)
- Luke McKiddy: third place for best editorial writing (I was part of the problem)
- Sam Danley: honorable mention for best editorial writing (You can’t rain on RuPaul’s parade)
- Emily Park: honorable mention for best investigative reporting (OPA flaw displaces students and costs UMKC millions)
- Julia Martin: honorable mention for best entertainment review (Loving Vincent: The paintings of Vincent van Gogh come to life)
