College of Arts and Sciences Dean Wayne Vaught wrote the following upon Dr. Koehler’s passing:

“It is with great sadness that I write to inform you of the loss of Carol Koehler . . . one of our most dear and devoted faculty members.  She had been in the hospital for surgery, but her death was unexpected and is a devastating loss for her family, the College, and the UMKC community.  She was a wonderful colleague and an enthusiastic professor.   An alumna of UMKC, Carol had a long and steadfast commitment to our academic mission, to our students, and to the faculty with whom she worked.   While deeply saddened by her loss, I hope that we may forever feel the spirit of who she was and what she stood for.  Carol will be greatly missed.”
