Push-ShoveThe UMKC Division of Diversity and Inclusion has announced the 2015 Social Justice Lecture author and book which is Push Has Come to Shove by Dr. Steve Perry. This book, written in a flamboyant and confrontational style by a magnet school principal and frequent CNN contributor on education issues, will provoke readers to actively discuss issues in K-12 education and beyond. Dr. Perry has many issues with the educational system, and he not only airs his grievances but takes no prisoners in advocating and practicing reform in his magnet school environment. The author lecture will take place on Thursday, October 28, at 6pm at Pierson Auditorium.  Learn more about the author’s visit and register for the event here.

The University Libraries is sponsoring a book discussion prior to the author’s visit.  Join us for what is expected to be a spirited discussion on October 14th at 3:00 PM in the UMKC Miller Nichols Library iX Theatre.  It is hoped that those in attendance will be part of the discussion and create a profound conversation about a variety of education issues.

The book discussion will be led by Scott Curtis, Learning and Research Librarian. The University Libraries is joining in partnership with the UMKC School of Education, UMKC Black Studies Program, and the UMKC Division of Diversity and Inclusion for the October 14th book discussion.
