Are you interested in getting more involved on campus but not sure where to start?  Check out the Activity and Program Council!   Join them to help plan campus activities and–of course–join them for the activities!

Their events are a great mix of education, social, and entertainment. Previous events have included an evening with Kevin Hart, the B.o.B concert, annual Talent Show, and off-campus events such as Freedom Sisters, Ice Skating, Baseball games, and Alvin Ailey performances.  You will also see APC handing out breakfast for “Good Morning Roos” at the Volker and Hospital Hill campuses.  APC sponsors  free movie screenings at the Student Union Theater–watch for more information in October for The Avengers and in November for The Dark Knight Rises.   APC also sponsors community service once a month with the Office of Student Involvement.

2012 Walk a Mile in Her Shoes

By , September 11, 2012 8:37 am

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® asks men to walk a mile in women’s high-heeled shoes. Walking in women’s shoes helps men better understand and appreciate women’s experiences, thus changing perspectives, helping improve gender relationships, and decreasing the potential for violence.

In 2011, approximately 300 people participated in Walk a Mile in Her Shoes® at UMKC. Their participation helped raise awareness of rape, sexual assault, and gender violence and funds for the UMKC Violence Prevention and Response Project.

The 2012 Walk will be held on Thursday, September 20, 5:30 p.m. at the UMKC Quad. Registration is open — click here to register. It costs $15 if you have heels, and $20 if you need to rent a pair. If you want a meal only, the cost is $7.  The online registration will close September 18. Registration on the day of the march is an additional $5.  For more information, visit www.umkc.edu/womenc/walkamile.
