Women of Color Leadership Conference: Keynote is Inspiration for TV’s “Scandal”

The UMKC Women of Color Leadership Conference: Empowering Women Through Creative Expression will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday, May 22 at the Student Union.

The luncheon keynote speaker is Judy Smith, crisis management adviser. Her groundbreaking career is the basis of ABC’s hit series “Scandal,” which revolves around the work of a major-league “fixer.”  Smith has served as a consultant for a host of high-profile celebrity and entertainment clients for 25 years.

In 1991, Smith joined the White House as special assistant and deputy press secretary to President George Bush. During her tenure, she provided communications advice on a wide range of foreign and domestic issues.

Smith is the author of the book, “Good Self, Bad Self.” She has received numerous communications and leadership awards and is active in community service.

The mission of the Women of Color Leadership Conference is to provide an environment for, by and about women of color that promotes equity, education and professional development.
