New Title IX Coordinator at UMKC

Thompson_MikahMikah K. Thompson, Esq. was recently hired as the Director of Affirmative Action/Equal Employment Opportunity/Title IX Coordinator at the University of Missouri-Kansas City.

Thompson is an attorney and an adjunct professor at UMKC’s School of Law.  She previously was a professor at the law school for six years and was awarded tenure as an associate professor in 2009.  While at UMKC, Thompson taught subjects on torts, race and the law, and sexuality and the law.  In addition, she was the faculty advisor for the Black Law Students Association.

As Title IX Coordinator, Thompson will oversee the University’s compliance with all federal and state laws and University of Missouri System policy
regarding nondiscrimination and affirmative action, including Title IX of the
Education Amendments of 1972, Section 504 of the rehabilitation Act of 1973,
Title VII of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the state of Missouri Human Rights
Act Chapter 213 RSMO.

Essentially, Title IX means that any discrimination on the basis of sex–including sexual harrassment, sexual misconduct, stalking on the basis of sex, intimate partner and/or relationship violence, and sexual exploitation–is prohibited at UMKC.  Any incidents should be reported immediately to the Title IX Coordinator or Deputy Coordinators.
