[The following was provided by Fraternity and Sorority Affairs in the Office of Student Involvement.]

Come out and meet UMKC’s social fraternities and sororities on Monday, August 23rd starting with pizza at 6:30 pm in the University Playhouse and moving at 7:30 pm into the Student Union for Q&A.  This is a great time to begin meeting all our chapters.

UMKC is home to three governing councils, each with their own unique way of recruiting new members to join the organizations.  Below is a little about each of the councils:  the Interfraternity Council, the National Pan-Hellenic Council, and the PanHellenic Council.

Interfraternity Council

Throughout the school year, you will have the chance to meet the men of the five IFC fraternities at various events.  It is important to keep an open mind and try to meet as many of the chapters as possible before signing a bid.  Traditionally, chapters will hold events during the summer, but the chapters host events throughout the school year as well.  Chapters can begin distributing bids (invitation to membership) on August 27th.

Sign up to meet the men of Beta Theta Pi, Lambda Chi Alpha, Lambda Theta Phi, Sigma Alpha Epsilon, and Sigma Phi Epsilon.  Joining a fraternity at UMKC will provide opportunities for lifelong friendship, community involvement, leadership, philanthropy and service.  Go to https://umkcifc.mycampusdirector.com/ to register for recruitment today!

National Pan-Hellenic Council

The National Pan-Hellenic Council at UMKC consists of six member organizations, three sororities and three fraternities.  UMKC’s NPHC fraternities are Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.; Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; and Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity, Inc.  UMKC’s NPHC sororities are Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc.; Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. and Sigma Gamma Rho Sorority, Inc.  NPHC chapters are traditionally African American fraternities and sororities, but students from all backgrounds are welcome.

Each group has a unique way of recruiting members to their organization.  These chapters host individual membership processes throughout the academic year.  “NPHC 101” will be held on September 9th beginning at 6 pm in the Student Union.  This is a great time to learn about the membership process and the chapters at UMKC.

Panhellenic Council

Through the Panhellenic recruitment process, you will have the opportunity to meet all four Panhellenic sororities:  Alpha Delta Pi, Alpha Sigma Alpha, Chi Omega and Delta Zeta. Recruitment is August 26 – 29, 2010, during which you will participate in a series of events designed to help you get to know the Panhellenic women at UMKC.

Go to https://umkc.mycampusdirector.com/ to register for Panhellenic recruitment, registration is required.  Transcripts and the registration fee must be submitted prior to August 25, 2010.
