Social Justice Book and Lecture Program – Oct 14

Join the UMKC Division of Diversity, Access, and Equity for the annual Social Justice Book and Lecture Program. 

Jonathan Cohn, author of this year’s chosen book, Sick: The Untold Story of America’s Health Care Crisis – and the People Who Pay the Price, will be on campus Thursday, October 14th in Pierson Auditorium at 6pm to discuss his book and the complex issues surrounding America’s health care policies.  This event is free and open to the public; book signing will follow.

International Culture Night – Oct 16

The UMKC International Student Ambassadors invite the campus community to attend the annual International Culture Night on Saturday, 16 Oct 2010 from 5.30-9pm at the new Student Union , room 401.  Culture Night is a free evening of international fashion, cuisine, music, and dance.  Come and enjoy the many cultures at UMKC!  The evening is free, but donations are gratefully accepted and will benefit Islamic Relief USA to help the flood victims in Pakistan.

Kansas City Marathon – Oct 16

The Waddell and Reed Kansas City Marathon is this Saturday, October 16, and there are a few things to keep in mind!   Streets around campus, including Volker from The Paseo to Brookside, and The Paseo from Armour Blvd to 18th St, will be closed from 8:20am-1:00pm.  As there are breaks in runners, police will allow cars to pass through and close the street again when runners get near.  The race will start and finish near Crown Center.  For a full course map, click here

Race officials are still looking for volunteers!  Simply register online and attend the training meeting on Thursday, October 14 at 7:00pm in the Crown Center Exhibit Hall A.  For more information, visit the marathon’s website.

School of Law Diversity Recruitment Forum – Oct 28

Interested in learning more about Law School?  The UMKC School of Law is hosting its annual Diversity Recruitment Forum on Thursday, October 28th from 8:30am to 2:00 pm.  You’ll have  the opportunity to meet with local attorneys and judges, attend a mock law class, and learn more about financial aid, scholarships, and taking the LSAT.

The event is free and will take place at the UMKC School of Law, on the corner of 52nd and Oak Street.  Parking for visitors is provided on the west side of Oak Street (opposite the Administrative Center) for $1.00 per hour.
