[This 3-part study tip about writing essays was provided by Lindsey Martin-Bowen, J.D. She is a lecturer with the English and PACE departments, as well as the WEPT Coordinator for UMKC. Her organization process should make writing an essay easier for any class! Remember the WEPT is coming up on November 3rd!]
Polishing Hints
Even if most professors base most of students’ writing grades upon content, presenting a well-written work free from mechanical errors generally reaps more points. (Plus, a number of professors in departments outside of the English Department have expressed their concerns about mechanical errors rather than writing errors.) The following hints address errors I often find in student writing—even in essays from seniors.
A powerful magician, a good king, and evil prime minister, heart-sick lovers, and silly servants all frolic in Carlo Gozzi’s 18th century fairy tale, The King Stag. Written in the style of commedia dell’arte, this fanciful story takes us to the forest of Roncislappe, in the kingdom of Serendip, where men become creatures and creatures become men; where deceit, lies, magic, murder, betrayal and loyalty all share the stage in pursuit of true love.
Join the UMKC Theatre department for The King Stag, directed by Stephanie Roberts and Theodore Swetz. The show opens on October 23 and runs through the 31st. For tickets, call the Central Ticket Office at (816) 235-6222 or go to their website for more details! Student tickets are only $10! For this season’s shows, check out the Playbill!
