A New Name for Nursing

By , March 5, 2013 8:46 am

The UMKC School of Nursing will soon be the UMKC School of Nursing and Health Studies.

“The new name reflects some of the energizing changes going on at the school and comes after much discussion and consideration as we look to meet the future needs for health professionals,” said Lora Lacey-Haun, RN, Ph.D., dean and professor.

One of the biggest expansions for the school has been the new bachelor of health science degree. The program has become increasingly popular, growing from an initial enrollment of 20 students to more than 200 today. “We believe the program will have more than 500 students in the near future,” said the dean, adding that the program allows the school to prepare health professionals for a variety of roles.
