Spring Intramural Registration

With warmer weather comes outdoor sports! Swinney Recreation Center hosts a variety of intramural leagues, with a place for every interest and ability. Registration for soccer, kickball, and softball is coming up, so gather your friends and form a team!

Poetry for Personal Power- March 16

Students, share your poetry about overcoming adversity and personal challenges, and compete for prize money!  Join us on Friday, March 16 at 7 pm in Student Union Multipurpose Room (401BC) for this fun and uplifting competition.  Enjoy the opening performance by featured poet Sheri “Purpose” Hall.  Come to perform your poetry or just to enjoy others’.  Only students are eligible for prize money, but anyone may perform.  First prize is $100, second prize is $50 and third prize is $25. Pre-registration is not required.  Refreshments will be provided.

Friends of the Library Scholarship Opportunity

Submit your 500-1000 word original piece written in response to the statement “How UMKC Libraries’ vast and varied resources contribute to my educational success.” for a chance to earn a $500 scholarship. Applications should be submitted electronically no later than March 21, 2012 and should include the following student information: name, student ID#, e-mail address, street address, phone number, degree program being sought, UMKC department and school, current level/year, and expected graduation date. Award is available to degree seeking students of any level from any school or discipline, with preference given to those with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Applicants are advised that all materials become the property of the Friends upon submittal and may be used in promoting UMKC Libraries. Winner to be announced April 17, 2012 at the Friends of the Library Annual Celebration at Union Station. Check out the announcement flier for more information.

Campus Ambassador Applications Available

The UMKC Office of Admissions is seeking 25 bright, articulate, dedicated UMKC undergraduate students for the Campus Ambassador Program. Students chosen for this exciting program will be trained to assist the Office of Admissions in recruiting new students.

The Campus Ambassadors represent the Chancellor, academic units, and the campus community. Each Ambassador will have the opportunity to meet and interact with UMKC alumni, constituents, and prospective students as well as gain valuable knowledge of UMKC, its history, its progression, and its future.

Applications are available online. They must be submitted by March 30.
