Andrews McMeel Publishing-Marketing Internship Overview

Andrews McMeel Publishing (AMP), a division of Andrews McMeel Universal, is a leading publisher of cartoon, humor, gift and inspiration books, cookbooks, and middle-grade comics and graphic novels. PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

 

* AMP offers paid marketing internships relevant to four courses of study: Marketing, Communications, English, and Journalism/Strategic Communications.

* We provide outstanding education and growth opportunities to qualified, hard working, self-motivated, poised, and articulate college juniors and seniors.

* Positions are available for the summer, spring, and fall semesters. Preference is given to candidates who can commit to more than one semester, up to 12 months.

* Internships average 16 hours per week. Interns adhere to a regular weekly schedule in accordance with students’ availability and department needs.
Internship objectives
* Acquire an overall view of the publishing industry

* Gain a basic understanding of retail and consumer marketing
* Enhance writing skills, with a focus on concise, persuasive writing for a variety of marketing touch points, including publicity, social media, email marketing and content marketing
* Hone professional development in a fast-paced business environment
Minimum requirements for hire:
* Minimum of 60 hours of college credit earned at time of application
* Overall GPA of 3.2 or above
* Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and Adobe InDesign

* Attentive to detail, with outstanding written communication and grammar skills

* Able to work autonomously, balance and prioritize tasks, and meet deadlines

 

Responsibilities include:

* Assist in the development of creative strategy and the planning and execution of comprehensive marketing campaigns

* Write press releases and story pitches for variety of media outlets (broadcast, print, online)

* Develop/design a variety of marketing materials

* Provide online retailer support

* Perform research to assist in the identification of marketing opportunities

* Evaluate and assist ongoing development and tracking of Internet and search marketing initiatives

* Create promotional email, social media, and other online announcements)

* Assist in the maintenance and proofreading of marketing materials

* Work to build our media contacts database to enhance our public relations efforts
