Communities Creating Opportunity (CCO) Community Organizing Internship 2018

General Overview
The Communities Creating Opportunity Internship Program is designed to provide interested students/volunteers with a solid grounding in our work to advance a dignity agenda on behalf of families across the states of Missouri and Kansas. More specifically, students will get the opportunity to apply their current skills and interests towards advocating for transformative social change within one of our core issues outlined below:
Communications interns will serve as an integrated part of our communications team – you will be doing real work that matters. CCO will work with successful applicants to design an internship tailored to your interests and skills. Most internships will be based out of our main office in Kansas City, but some may be work-from-home optional.

Position: Editorial Intern – Fall Semester

Qualifications

The successful candidate should have at least two years of college level news reporting experience on a variety of platforms including print, video, social media and audio. The successful candidate must be deadline oriented and able to produce well written, effective and objective news stories on a daily and weekly basis.

Internships are approximately 25-30 hours per week with some weekend or evening work possible.

This is a paid internship opportunity with the opportunity to earn college credit through the intern’s school.

Being a community weekly In Kansas City’s urban core, The Northeast News can offer a unique perspective on news gathering and presenting. Through print, digital, social media and with our digital media partners One Kansas City Radio and KKFI, 90.1 KansasCity Community Radio, we can offer the successful Intern the opportunity to be an Integral part of an active and cutting edge news organization. Given our small staff, there are Interface opportunities with all full time team members. (Design, Sales, Editorial, Publisher)

Interns are coached actively on a daily basis. Every time they’re given a new assignment or story to cover, they are counseled as to who to talk with In a specific city/county department, any background needed for the assignment and why the story is important to our neighborhood.

Responsible for providing support through an internship to ALSAC’s marketing and fundraising efforts.

Requires a degree of judgement; ability to speak and write clearly and concisely for communication with internal and external relationships.
