Sporting KC Soccer Schools Intern – Summer 2016 – Sporting Kansas City (Kansas City, MO)

Sporting Kansas City is looking for a confident, hard-working, and innovative college or graduate- level student who is interested in an opportunity to earn course credits toward the completion of their degree, while obtaining practical experience in the world of professional sports. We have redesigned our internship program to provide valued learning and training opportunities that can be applied throughout the sports industry, hands-on experience, and the chance to be immersed in the culture and brand of Sporting Kansas City.

We are currently looking for candidates interested in an internship with our NEW Sporting KC Soccer Schools program (SKCSS). The intern will be exposed to the various elements associated with Sporting Kansas City’s front office, youth programs, Development Academy and other Youth Soccer Department initiatives, such as soccer Sporting Club Network events and clinics. The intern will also be introduced to the behind-the-scenes operations of Sporting Kansas City home games.

COACHING RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as a lead coach for SKCSS programming and at Sporting Club Network events and clinics
  • Assist with on-site administration for each SKCSS course
  • Assist with keeping equipment and resource inventory necessary for SKCSS programming
  • Assist in moving equipment to and from locations for SKCSS program operations
  • Contribute to SKCSS curriculum and assist in digitizing as well as collect and compile curriculum for youth programming

ADMINISTRATIVE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Administer game day promotions and operations of SKCSS programming and any applicable upcoming youth programs related to Youth Soccer Department
  • Generate and send customer “reminder” and “thank you” emails
  • Generate and print SKCSS player certificates of completion
  • Create Flickr albums at the conclusion of each SKCSS course
  • Assist in new and innovative ways to market the SKCSS program including electronic, special event appearances and grassroots campaigns
  • Assist in Youth Soccer Department’s communications, online presence and digital media in relation to the SKCSS (i.e., social media, event recaps and blog writing)
  • Support any projects, initiatives or other administrative duties related to Youth Soccer Department

QUALIFICATIONS

  • At the time of the internship, have completed at least your sophomore year at a four-year accredited college institution or be enrolled in an accredited graduate program
  • Must provide proof that you will receive credit through the internship toward the completion of your degree
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (based on a 4.0 scale)
  • Sports Management studies or other related field preferred
  • USSF Coaching license(s) preferred
  • Soccer knowledge and skills necessary; coaching and/or playing experience highly preferred
  • Previous experience in coaching at youth level
  • Available for home matches and other events throughout the internship session (primarily evenings and weekends)
