Light the Night Marketing/Event Planning Intern – Summer 2016

What is The Light the Night Walk?

Light the Night is the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s evening community fundraising walk to celebrate and commemorate lives touched by cancer. Locally, Light the Night is held in September and draws in over 6,000 walkers in Kansas City and 600 in Topeka.

The Kansas City walk is schedule for September 30th and Northeast Kansas walk is Sept. 10th in Topeka.

Internship Responsibilities:

  • Represent LLS in a professional manner at all LTN events/functions.

  • Assist with preparing marketing materials for Light the Night season.
  • Make calls as needed to friends & family team captains to retain past teams.
  • Solicit incentives from local businesses.
  • Recruit new paper balloon partners through phone calls and appointments.
  • Manage social media program including Facebook posts and Twitter.
  • Work on special projects as assigned, including but not limited to LTN call nights.
  • Write news releases and call local media.
  • Collect bids for walk event logistics. (Food vendors, entertainment, etc.).
  • Perform various administrative duties.

 

Qualifications:

Students entering their junior or senior year of college in Marketing, Public Relations, Communications, Public Administration, or other related areas of study are encouraged to apply.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • A high level of organization and ability to work individually

 

Dates:                                        June 1st – October 1st (flexible)* Must be able to attend the walk you are assigned to and working on.

 

Hours:                                       Part Time, approx 20 hours a week (flexible scheduling)
