Position Overview: Part-Time (Temporary – 12 week assignment)
The Story Center intern is responsible for modeling excellent customer service to all staff and customers by providing book reviews of customer submitted works. This is a 12 week internship appointment and will require working 12 hours per week totaling 144 hours to complete with base pay of $8.00 per hour. Evening and weekend availability is required

Essential Job Functions:
Learns components of critical review and demonstrates knowledge and applied learning
Reviews books submitted to the Story Center for review by customers
Assists customers with Story Center or Woodneath Press Related questions
Interacts with Library and Story Center customers in a friendly and helpful manner
Assists in marketing efforts for Story Center programs and services through outreach and social media
Operates book machine; heavy equipment operation (with supervision)
Acts as student-liaison to peers; advocates for the Story Center
Assists Story Center staff with related programs and events
Assists Story Center Outreach under direction of Story Center Manager or Woodneath Press Manager
Serves as the eyes of the Library by watching and reporting safety and security issues
Other duties as assigned
Non-essential Job Functions:
Shelves Story Center materials correctly and efficiently
Straightens and shifts Story Center materials to ensure adequate space and a neat appearance
Performs basic custodial duties, as needed
Required Skills:
Models excellent customer service attitude and delivery
Demonstrates proven computer literacy with adequate keyboarding skills
Uses effective verbal, written, and discreet communication with management, co-workers, and the public
Exhibits self-motivation with the ability to prioritize, meet deadlines, and manage changing priorities
Demonstrates excellent organizational and planning skills with ability to perform multiple tasks concurrently
Exhibits ability to work with alphabetical and Dewey Decimal systems
Experience and Training:
Current high school senior or enrolled in accredited college or university
Course work in AP English (Advanced Placement, English Composition preferred)
Essential Physical Abilities to be accomplished with or without reasonable accommodation are:
Clarity of speech and hearing which permits the employee to communicate effectively with the supervisor and other employees.
Vision which permits the employee to produce and review a wide variety of library materials, written correspondence, reports and related materials in both electronic and hard copy form.
Manual dexterity which permits the employee to operate a keyboard and any other assigned equipment to process library materials.
Personal mobility which permits the employee to monitor, supervise, and perform assigned library operations, and to attend Library district, community, and public meetings at various locations.
Lift up to 40 pounds, push and pull carts weighing up to 200 pounds, bend, stoop and reach shelving from floor level to 6 feet high, and stand or walk for at least 1 hour at a time.
Tolerance for dust and mold which permits the employee to work with books and other library materials as well as work in older buildings.
