Job Summary

The Intern assists with public relations and marketing, helping to increase visibility for the Library and its public programs. The public relations/marketing intern will work directly below the Public Programs Officer. Intern will learn fundamentals of marketing and public relations. Duties might include any of the following responsibilities, as well as other, unlisted duties.

Public Relations Responsibilities

• Assist with developing, writing and distributing approved press releases and other press materials
• Assist with media relations, including pitching, researching and scheduling interviews if needed
• Produce monthly informational videos for distribution on social media and local television station
• Support public program planning and event execution functions
• Building and maintaining relationships with both local and national media
• Proofread written materials for style, grammar, etc.

Marketing Responsibilities

• Draft advertising copy for events
• Assist with developing, maintaining and using marketing database, which includes client and prospect information
• Participate in social media marketing efforts for public programs
• Assist with website content development and design

General office responsibilities

• Answer phones when needed
• Run errands as needed – compensation for mileage applicable

• Willingness to contribute to the overall operation of Public Programs Department
• Ability to generate, share and follow through on creative ideas
• Ability to use iMovie and other apps to produce short videos
