COMPENSATION: NON PAID, ACADEMIC COURSE CREDIT REQUIRED

FALL INTERNSHIP OVERVIEW:

The World Trade Center Kansas City (WTC-KC), a licensed entity held by the Greater Kansas City Chamber of Commerce

(KC Chamber), is seeking highly self-directed student interns for the Fall of 2017 in two main areas of focus: marketing/programming and project management/research. Internships will be focused within a respective scope of work, but duties may vary to encompass all WTC-KC daily office needs. WTC interns are expected to work as a team and general responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • issue and policy research and reporting
  • international market research and reporting
  • interaction with small businesses and large corporations
  • relationship building and effective customer service management with WTC-KC investors
  • special event coordination and support
  • data base management
  • trade documentation processing
  • website content monitoring and preparation
  • materials preparation (including possible opportunities for copy-writing, design and photography)
  • social media posting

This is a great opportunity for students to see how a World Trade Center operates and observe interactions and decision-making among community and business leaders. Interns in this program will also have the opportunity for networking with regional business leaders and professional development.

Desired Skills:

Candidates must be highly self-directed and possess effectual critical thinking skills. Strong communications skills including high levels of both written and spoken English language required. Students must be organized and proficient at Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Proactive, independent, manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.

MARKETING/PROGRAMMING INTERNSHIP:

The WTC-KC is seeking a highly creative student that is well-versed in the areas of website design, social media platforms (with a specific focus on Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook), and external communications. This internship will focus largely on the on-going development of the WTC-KC website, social media communications, and WTC-KC program management.

Special attention will be given to supporting the communications of the Global Cities Initiative; the WTC-KC led regional effort. This position will be heavily focused on marketing, the ideal candidate will possess an international outlook on the world and be generally interested in international business.

The marketing intern will work in tandem with the WTC-KC director and manager, KC Chamber marketing team, KC Chamber facilities specialist, KC Chamber staff, and GCI communications consultant. The position will require the ability to communicate effectively between all parties.

  • General oversight + content generation of WTC-KC Twitter account
  • General oversight + content generation for WTC-KC LinkedIn account
  • General oversight + content generation for all GCI social media
  • Assist in design of new WTC-KC website (includes page layout, content + graphic generation)
  • Assist in the consistent updating of WTC email distribution list
  • Responsible for monthly WTC-KC parking vouchers
  • Responsible for photography at all WTC-KC programming
  • Responsible for WTC-KC meeting and event preparation
  • Coordinate all WTC-KC program catering
  • Coordinate all room reservations + A/V needs
  • Coordinates day-of preparation including refreshments + attendee sign-in & greeting
  • Support the development of current and future WTC program planning and implementation

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Daily on-line trade documentation processing *training provided
  • Other projects/assignments as needed
