INFILL WITH PHOTOSHOP EXERCISE

It’s obvious to me that increasing density of housing surrounding the Troost Park area is a possible improvement that will help to activate the park (as well as removing the branch of Paseo Boulevard that cuts straight through the middle!)

Tasked with finding dwellings with small, medium and large Dwelling Unit per Acre measurements, our selected buildings needed to then be placed onto properly sized lots within the neighborhood, for it to “try on” each building for size. My small DUA is a single family home, my medium DUA is a 16 building apartment complex, and my large DUA is a large condominium complex with 139 units. I chose each of these buildings to add to our site because I liked their architectural style, degree of uniqueness, and all of them evoke sentimental value for me in some way. See captions below for detailed information.

Pictured below are my photo montages for each of the buildings that I selected, blended together using Photoshop with the sites as indicated on the map above.

A corner lot on 3000 Tracy, directly East of Toost Park is currently vacant. This picture depicts the small single family home that I chose to place there, originally located in the Waldo area.
Illustrating the difficulty in placing a large apartment complex within this neighborhood, this picture depicts the Freeway Homes Apartment complex on a large space of land at the corner of Tracy and 29th, directly North of the park. Adding a complex this size would require the removal of the existing 12 single family homes and a small church on the location currently.
The Kansas City Police Station owns four currently vacant lots directly behind (North) of it, but combined they are large enough to accommodate the large blue condominium complex that I selected for placement, originally found in Brookside at 333 West Meyer Boulevard.
