Possible Sanctions – Title IX & Equity

When a decision-maker determines that a student, student organization, or employee has violated the University’s anti-discrimination or Title IX policies, they will issue sanctions.  Multiple sanctions may be imposed for any single violation.

For students and student organizations, the sanctions range from a warning to expulsion:

  • A notice in writing, indicating that there is or has been a violation of UMKC policy, and cautioning that if there are further violations of any other UMKC policies, the existence of the warning may result in more severe sanctions in the future
  • A written reprimand for violation of specified regulations; probation is for a designated period of time and includes the probability of more severe sanctions if the Respondent is found to be violating any other UMKC policies during the probationary period
  • Denial of specified privileges for a designated period of time; for example, the Respondent may be banned from attending an athletic event or using the library or parking in a specified lot
  • Compensating UMKC for loss, damage, or injury to University property; this compensation may take the form of appropriate service and/or monetary or material replacement
  • Work assignments, service to UMKC, or other related discretionary assignments, or completion of educational programming
  • Separation from the residence halls for a definite period of time, after which the Respondent is eligible to return; conditions for readmission may be specified
  • Permanent separation of the Respondent from the residence halls
  • Respondent is suspended from being allowed on a specific University campus for a definite period of time; logistical modifications consistent with the sanction imposed may be granted at the discretion of the Title IX Coordinator/Equity Officer
  • Separation of the Respondent from the UM System for a definite period of time, after which the Respondent is eligible to return; conditions for readmission may be specified
  • Respondent Student Organization loses its official approval as a recognized student organization, either temporarily or permanently
  • Permanent and complete separation from all educational programs in the UM System; with expulsion, the Respondent is not eligible to enroll for online or in-person courses

For employees, the sanctions range from a warning to termination:
