Wonder Woman and Mother

by Maritza Gordillo

On April 22 the Women’s Center sponsored the Wonder Women Film Screening event. I want to say that I was so happy I attended because it opened my eyes to many issues that we in society internalize as normal. The film portrayed a real women’s perspective of maritzawomen’s role in the media by using the Wonder Woman character. As I was watching this film, it then came to me that my mother was a Wonder Woman, my super heroine. This might sound cliché to you, but to this day she wakes up early to make me lunch, not out of obligation, but out of love for me. She cleans, she works, she’s my nurse, she’s my counselor, and the one who always comes to my rescue to save me. She works unlimited hours, weekends, holidays, no breaks, and does all of this work without a salary. My mother is one example of a real Wonder Woman, who is yours? Let’s celebrate all women year round who make this world a better place!!
