Vagina Monologue Auditions

Although the semester is winding down, the Women’s Center still have events for people to attend.  One event that is forth coming and held every year is the Vagina Monologues. For those of you that are not aware of this, the Vagina Monologues is one of our most popular and entertaining events here at the Women’s Center. They are a collection of short stories put together by Eve Ensler dealing with not only vaginas, but all women’s’ experiences. Its purpose is to raise awareness for V-Day, which is a movement to stop violence against women.

From my past experience working this event, I have noticed when people hear the title, they become uneasy and do not know what to expect. Well, I want to let you know these stories are relatable—some are funny, and some are sad.

Starting this week, we will have auditions for the performances that are scheduled for February.  On Friday November 12, auditions will be held from 3 to 7 p.m.  On Saturday, November 13, auditions will be held from 12 to 3 p.m.  On Monday November 15, the last auditions will be held from 4 to 6 p.m.

Every woman is welcome to audition. Also, both women and men are welcome to volunteer and attend the show.  You can be sure that you will receive a good laugh, a good cry, and a good time.  The UMKC Violence Prevention Page, includes information about the program and who to contact if you are interested in attending or even participating.  The page can also tell you more information about our other events and programs.  Hopefully we see you all at the auditions and continue the movement to stop violence against women.
