Steve Lewis, Jr. (MM conducting, 2012) has been awarded the EAMA/Florence Gould Foundation Michael Iovenko Fellowship to study conducting in Paris, Summer 2016 as part of the European American Musical Alliance at the historic Schola Cantorum. January 29, 2016 - The UMKC Wind Symphony had a fantastic time performing at the Missouri Music Educators Association (MMEA) 2016 Workshop/Conference in beautiful Osage Beach Missouri. The Wind Symphony performed a band arrangement of Ottorino Respighi's Feste Romane for school teachers, band directors, students, and interested musicians from all over Missouri. Acting principal Horn of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra, Daniel Gingrich, will be doing a masterclass for UMKC students in the Grant Recital Hall on October 28th, 2015 from 1-3pm. The UMKC Conservatory's faculty and students often perform in prestigious settings. We are pleased to note that Martin Hackleman, Artist in Residence and Associate Teaching Professor of Horn, performed for Pope Francis' September, 2015 visit to the United States. Hackleman performed during two of the Pope's masses in Washington DC. The first mass was at St. Matthews Cathedral where the Pope addressed the American bishops.
