Conservatory student Benjamin Bacni, who is in his final year of a Master's degree, and alum Cynthia Simpson (2015, Artist's Certificate) both of whom study(ied) with Martin Hackleman, took first and second place, respectively, in the University Division at the International Horn Competition of America, August 28–30, 2015, held at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Matthew Haislip (DMA, horn performance, 2015) has had his set of original etudes for horn published by BrownWood Publishing, available here. This set was a component of Dr. Haislip's dissertation. Locally, Dr. Haislip is an instructor at Washburn University and Calvary Bible College; serves as assistant conductor of the Kansas City Horn Club; and has been a performing member of the Kansas City Civic Orchestra (principal horn) and Missouri Symphony Orchestra.
