Jackie Myers

About

Jackie Myers is a transplant from Austin Texas, where she performed professionally for almost a decade. Most of that time was spent touring. Jackie’s passion has always been jazz, but she enjoys playing other genres. She has played everything from country music to western swing, soul to indie-pop and blues as well. Notable groups/artists she’s played with include Lonnie Mcfadden, Matt Hopper, Eboni Fondren – all local jazz artists, Nick Schnebelen – local blues artist and winner of 2008 International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Ameripolitan Award nominee for Best New Western Swing Band in 2018, The Railhouse Band, country artist Doug Strahan and pop groups The Lonesome Heroes, The Youngest, Brian Pounds (from The Voice) and Pat Byrne (from Ireland’s The Voice). Jackie has also had the pleasure of playing in music festivals across the country of all shapes and sizes, most notably: SXSW, WHATfest, BAMfest, OKMozart, and Brew Skies. Jackie moved to Kansas City at the very end of 2017 after being encouraged to work with several local jazz venues. Since then, she has held a residency at The Green Lady Lounge for a little over two years, played at the Blue Room and notably held the position of Music Director and piano player for the nationally syndicated radio show – 12th Street Jump, taped live here in Kansas City until recently when the radio show was no longer able to operate due to pandemic related difficulties. Jackie also has an interest in film composition and runs a small non-profit dedicated to writing current scores for old silent films. The program is called Silent Films Out Loud and is in Austin TX. Jackie is currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Music from UMKC, which focuses on jazz piano performance. She holds a certificate in music from Berklee, and a bachelor’s in music from Grinnell College. Jackie has taught in her private studio for over a decade and is comfortable teaching in many genres. Jazz, Pop, Blues, Western-Swing and Country Music are all strengths, but she is also confident teaching classical music and more.
