Behavior: We expect students who participate in all Conservatory Bridges Programs to represent themselves in an appropriate manner at all times. University classes will be in session at the UMKC Conservatory, so participants must be respectful and quiet in the hallways and throughout the building.
Electronic devices: Phones, games, and other similar devices are not allowed during lessons and classes unless a device is needed for the lesson. Examples include, using your device as a tuner, metronome or virtual accompaniment.
Banned substances: Alcoholic beverages, drugs, smoking and vaping are not permitted. There will be a zero-tolerance policy with these infractions; any student caught with these substances will be dismissed from the program and reported to the proper authorities.
Safety while on campus: Participants under the age of 18 will not be permitted to walk around campus unaccompanied. Please see our Drop-off and Pick-Up Policies below for additional details.
Personal Belongings: Participants are responsible for their own instruments, equipment, and personal belongings. Note: UMKC Conservatory assumes no responsibility for theft, loss, or damage to personal property.
Drop-Off: It is preferred that parents/guardians walk their student to their lesson studio or classroom and stay with them until they are seen with their teacher. Please note, parents/guardians are always invited and even encouraged to sit in on lessons and classes.
Pick-Up: Students must be seen with a guardian by their teacher or a staff member before leaving the premises. Please either park and come in to pick up your child or pull up along their rehearsal building at the spot indicated on our Campus Information Page, so we can see your child get in your car. Students are not allowed to walk around campus unaccompanied, and must identify their car to a teacher/staff member before leaving the building.
Students Driving Themselves: If a student under the age of 18 plans on driving themselves to lessons and classes, this should be indicated on their student contract/information form. If in their contract/information form you indicated they would be dropped off, but now they plan on driving themselves, we will need to be notified by email by a parent/guardian that the student is permitted to walk to their vehicle without a chaperone.
Please note: UMKC does NOT provide transportation to students. Parents/guardians are responsible to ensure participants arrive and are picked up on time each day.
Harassment: UMKC is committed to creating and an environment on campus that is free of all forms of harassment, intimidation, and discrimination. Any form of discrimination or coercion based on race, ethnicity, gender, class, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability, rank, or any other characteristic will not be tolerated. Any student found discriminating or coercing someone else will be dismissed from the program and reported to the proper authorities. See UMKC’s Statement on Discrimination, Intimidation, and Sexual Harassment for more info.
