Missouri ALN Study: Mapping Adult Learners Journey in Colleges and Universities

Focus Areas: Essential Skills/SEL

This study explores the barriers and procedures that affect adult learners in Missouri higher education.

This case study research focuses on four institutions in Missouri (community college, HBCU, 4-year private institution, 4-year public institution) who are mapping their policies and procedures that affect adult learners at their institution. The institutions participated in a two-day student journey mapping conference at the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development in Summer 2022.  As part of the study, institutions will share their student journey maps, minutes from follow-up meetings, and core information about adult learners at their institution. Adult learners from each institution will be interviewed to describe their journey and encounters with policies, procedures and support services at the institution. The study will explore changes in policies and procedures as a consequence of the student journey mapping experience.

UERC is partnering with Dr. Royce Ann Collins, Associate Professor of Adult Learning and Leadership at Kansas State University, and the Missouri Adult Learning Network to conduct this study. Funding is provided by The DeBruce Foundation.
