Evaluation of the Wayside Waifs No More Bullying Program

Focus Areas: Teachers Work, Essential Skills/SEL

This evaluation examines the impact of a unique elementary school bullying and violence prevention program that integrates the animal and human perspective on students’ empathy, self-awareness, and self-management skills.

Wayside Waifs, a nonprofit animal welfare and humane education organization, partners with Kansas City area elementary schools to deliver the No More Bullying!® curriculum to 3rd-5th grade students. Through this program, Wayside Waifs Humane Educators, accompanied by a companion animal, visit classrooms for five daily sessions. Educators engage students in interactive lessons focused on a set of core values (responsibility, compassion, respect, self-control, being humane, courage, and integrity).

UERC is conducting an evaluation using survey data from students and teachers to assess the impact of the No More Bullying!® program on students’ social-emotional skills and on overall classroom climate. Surveys conducted with program educators are used to examine implementation fidelity, challenges, and best practices.

UERC is also partnering with Wayside Waifs to explore the scalability of this evaluation process for the many organizations who implement the No More Bullying!® curriculum across the nation.
