About Us

At the UMKC School of Pharmacy, we have some friendly, funny, caring (sometimes quirky) people working in our Office of Student Affairs. Each of us brings a unique perspective to the office and how we assist students. Many of the posts on this blog will be written by us, but we’ll also bring in special guests from time to time (maybe the Dean!) to offer a different viewpoint. Either way, we hope you find our posts informative and useful. At the end of the day, we’re here to help guide you on your path to pharmacy.

Amanda Hoelting
Senior Recruiter

Amanda has been with the School of Pharmacy since September 2018. She recently graduated from Kansas State University, but we like to think she has a loyalty to all things Missouri. You’ll see her around our office helping recruit high school students into the field of pharmacy, and her position often takes her on the road to different college fairs and high schools across the state – she’s a true road warrior. She loves all things country music, has a knack for quoting movies while others are trying to watch (yeah, she’s THAT person), and spends her Saturdays at the dog park.

Steve McDonald
Recruitment & Admissions Coordinator

Steve has been with the School of Pharmacy since 1999. Both of his degrees come from UMKC, and he spent almost 40 years living in Kansas City. He and his family now live in Columbia, and most days you can find him on the Mizzou campus. Other days he may visiting Springfield or a number of schools across the state. In fact, if your college pre-health society or science club is looking for guest speakers, please let him know! He’s happy to chat about the Pharm.D. program in person or show you a few minutes of a Pharm.D. lecture. Steve loves playing and watching sports, movies, grilling out, craft beers, and local wines. He spends most of his time with his wife, three kids and their Boston Terrier puppy…So, the typical #DadLife
