Course Catalog NumberConsult with UMKC Scheduling or Catalog Administrator for available course numbers. When possible, avoid using letters following the numbers except where previously approved. Please also see the Course Lifecycle Policy and the Course Numbering and Reuse Policy. For upper-level course numbers (300-400) please also see the Designation of Upper-division Undergraduate and Graduate Level Courses Policy.
Is this course number proposal changing the level of a currently offered course?Select, ‘Yes’ or ‘No’; If ‘Yes’, provide rationale for changing the course level.
Course TitleInsert the course title as to be displayed in catalog copy.
Abbreviated Course Title30 character limit (including spaces); the field will show on the student transcript.
Course Catalog DescriptionCourse descriptions should:
-be entered as they are to appear in catalog publication
-be limited to 100 words
-be written in third person, present tense
-focus on general subject matter rather than listing specific topics
-not reflect placement in the curriculum
-not contain programmatic information
-not include prereqs, coreqs, restrictions, or term offered
-avoid using language, ‘this course..’
-not include the course number or title
-always end with a period.

Credit HoursEnsure that the credit hours assigned to the course are compliant with UMKC and unit level credit hour equivalency policies.
For variable credit, enter the minimum and maximum credits, separated by either a “-” symbol, or the word “to”. Example (“1-3” or “1 to 3”)
Prerequisites/Co-requisitesRequisites are established in accordance with the Prerequisite/Co-requisite Policy. Use the full course subject and number (i.e., NURSE 123) with a period at the end. Commas, semi-colons, and parenthesis may be used to clarify intent or order.
Cross ListingsCross listings are established in accordance with the Cross-Listed Course Policy. Cross-listed courses are the same course offered with multiple subject codes and are programed in the degree audit system to count equally towards degree requirements. Click on the green plus sign to add an existing course as a cross listing.
Co-ListingsCo-listings are established in accordance with the Co-listed GRAD-Prof and UG Courses Policy. Co-listed and graduate-professional and undergraduate courses that are taught at the same time. Co-listed courses should have separate syllabi and student learning outcomes.
How many times can a student take this course with credit towards the degree?Repeatable for credit towards a degree indicates that students may enroll in the same course multiple times with credit towards the degree requirements. Most courses that are repeatable for degree credit are music lessons, PE activity courses, special topics, theme courses, etc.

Grading CriteriaPlease include a grading scale and explanation of how grades are derived.
Course AttributesSelect any attributes associated with the course (may include multiple). If none, please check the ‘None’ box. Note that some attributes require additional approvals (Community Engaged Learning, Undergraduate Research/Eureka, Writing Intensive, and General Education).
Course FormatSelect the appropriate course format based on the established codes and definitions. If two or more formats are chosen, please specify how many credit hours are applied to each course format in consultation with the Credit Hour Equivalency Policy.
Instructional ModeSelect the appropriate instructional mode for the course:
-Classroom Based (class meets 71% to 100% face-to-face)
-Video (class meets via interactive video conference)
-Blended Class Instruction (class meets 5 or more times on campus, remainder of the course is online)
-Online-Campus (class meets 1-4 times on campus, remainder of the course is online)
-Primarily Online Synchronous (class meets primarily online 75%-99% with real-time interactions between instructor and students)
-Primarily Online Asynchronous (class meets primarily online 75%-99% without real-time interactions between instructor and students)
