To commemorate the centennial of the Red Summer, the National WWI Museum and Memorial is hosting a lecture from Dr. Saje Mathieu and Cameron McWhirter, two leading voices on the subject. We would like to invite you and your students to join.
Dr. Saje Mathieu is the author of The Glory of Their Deeds: A Global History of Black Soldiers and the Great War Era, and Cameron McWhirter is a Wall Street Journal reporter and author of Red Summer: The Summer of 1919 and the Awakening of Black America.
Please join us on July 30th at 6:30 p.m. in the J.C. Nichols Auditorium at the National WWI Museum and Memorial. Tickets are free with RSVP.

Progressive Kansas City Mayoral Campaign Seeking Interns
About the Candidate:
Jolie Justus was elected to Kansas City’s 4th Council District in 2015 after representing Missouri’s 10th Senatorial District, where she served as Minority Leader. In Jefferson City, Jolie fought for Missouri’s children & families, led and passed criminal justice reform, and made sure that Kansas City got its fair share of state resources. She is a progressive known for getting things done and, as the first openly LGBTQ member of the Missouri Senate, shepherded the Missouri Non-Discrimination Act out of the Republican-dominated State Senate. She’s brought that collaborative approach to the City Council, where she’s helping domestic violence survivors get a new lease on life, establishing safe routes to schools for our kids, supporting a $15-an-hour minimum wage, and leading the charge for Kansas City’s new airport.
Qualifications:
● Hard-working students who are willing to dedicate 8-12 hours per week to the campaign
● An interest in continuing the progress of one of the most exciting cities in the country
● A desire to improve the lives of current and future generations
● Prior experience volunteering or interning for a campaign is preferred, but not required!
Description of Internships: Interns may focus on field organizing or fundraising. Field Interns will have the opportunity to experience multiple phrases of a campaign including persuasion and Get Out the Vote (GOTV).
Field interns will focus on voter contact and volunteer management and will gain knowledge of what it takes to win a political election. Interns will organize and participate in volunteer canvasses, phone banks, meet and greets, debates and forums, and more. They will also gain experience using with important campaign management software, such as VoteBuilder.
