Regina Williamson – Undergrad & Work Study for the Graduate Writing Initiative

Regina WilliamsonRegina Williamson is an undergraduate student in Health Sciences and a Work Study for the Graduate Writing Initiative, specifically within the Writing Studio.

“I assist Kara in setting up different events and programs set up for the graduate students,” she said. “One of the events I have assisted with so far is a Graduate Student Write-In at Diastole, which was held on a Saturday in December. I also assist her in reaching out and communicating with the graduate students about registration and requesting materials or forms from them.”

Regina said it is important for students to be able to express themselves through writing.

“This helps educate the people and in the long run, educates the world,” she said. “Also, what better way to know exactly what someone is thinking?”

Regina especially enjoyed the Write-In at Diastole.

“Students came ready to write,” she said. “The environment, which was Dr. Dimond’s home at one point, was very conducive for the purpose we were there for. The environment was very calm, and there was a writing consultant and a librarian to help the graduate students with any question they had. All these resources in one place.”

Regina encourages students to take advantage of the Graduate Writing Initiative resources.

“Students are able to get feedback from graduate writing consultants, presenters and also from each other,” she said. “They might all be in different levels of writing their thesis or anything they are working on and might be able to get some question answered by their peers or by different professors or presenters.”

Regina also wants students to know about the Graduate Workstations within the Writing Studio.

“In the Atterbury Student Success Center, there are stations that are designated for graduate students only,” she said. “In these stations, they can work on their papers in a quiet and comfortable atmosphere.  They are always welcome to use these stations. It will be great if we can get some input from the graduate students about ways that we can make this area a place that will be resourceful to them.”
