Artistic Dental Bonding is a low-cost, cosmetic technique that UMKC Dental Faculty Practice uses to improve the appearance of your teeth. The term “composite” refers to a natural tooth-colored blend of materials, either resin or plastic, which is layered to an existing tooth.

Bonding is ideal for fixing chipped or cracked teeth, hiding staining on the tooth’s surface, or reducing the spaces between front teeth. Whatever the specific intent, composite bonding creates more esthetically attractive teeth and a brighter smile.

Unlike veneers or crowns, composite bonding doesn’t demand grinding down of the original tooth. Tooth-colored fillings (bonding) can also effectively address cavities without having to destroy large amounts of the natural tooth structure. Not only do you not have those depressing silver fillings, you also have a tooth that is much stronger overall.

The thin coating of plastic material lasts for up to 10 years and will produce one or all of the following results:

•  Repair decayed teeth
•  Repair chipped or cracked teeth
•  Whiten discolored teeth
•  Erase gaps between teeth
•  Change a tooth’s length or shape
•  Protect the tooth’s root if shrinking gums have exposed it
