Student Rules and Safety

Behavior: We expect students who participate in all Conservatory Academy Summer Programs to represent themselves in an appropriate manner at all times. University classes will be in session at the UMKC Conservatory, so participants must be respectful and quiet in the hallways and throughout the building.

Electronic devices: Phones, games, and other similar devices are not allowed during lessons and classes unless a device is needed for the lesson. Examples include, using your device as a tuner, metronome or virtual accompaniment.

Banned substances: Alcoholic beverages, drugs, smoking and vaping are not permitted. There will be a zero-tolerance policy with these infractions; any student caught with these substances will be dismissed from the program and reported to the proper authorities.

Safety while on campus: Participants under the age of 18 will not be permitted to walk around campus unaccompanied. Please see our Drop-off and Pick-Up Policies below for additional details.

Personal Belongings: Participants are responsible for their own instruments, equipment, and personal belongings. Note: UMKC Conservatory assumes no responsibility for theft, loss, or damage to personal property.

Drop-Off: Students must check in with one of our program chaperones, who will be stationed in the lobby.

Pick-Up: If a student is being picked up at the conclusion of the day, their family member should either come inside to get them or pull up to the front of the building, so we can see the student get into the car before driving away. We do not allow students to leave the building unaccompanied unless permission to do so was given during registration.

Students Driving Themselves: If a student under the age of 18 plans on driving themselves to the event, parents/guardians should have noted this during registration, so that the student is permitted to walk to their vehicle without a chaperone. Otherwise, the student will need to wait until a chaperone is available to escort them to their vehicle.

Please note: UMKC does NOT provide transportation to students. Parents/guardians are responsible to ensure participants arrive and are picked up on time each day.

Harassment: UMKC is committed to creating and an environment on campus that is free of all forms of harassment, intimidation, and discrimination. Any form of discrimination or coercion based on race, ethnicity, gender, class, religion, sexual orientation, age, disability, rank, or any other characteristic will not be tolerated. Any student found discriminating or coercing someone else will be dismissed from the program and reported to the proper authorities. See UMKC’s Statement on Discrimination, Intimidation, and Sexual Harassment for more info.

If you have concerns about sexual harassment or other forms of discrimination or harassment, or if you want to make a report, information is available at THIS LINK.
