This past Friday, the RooHorns performed at the annual UMKC Conservatory fundraising event Crescendo! performing the J.D. Shaw arrangement of "Nearer My God to Thee" by Sarah Adams and Lowell Mason. Members of the studio also performed with the Conservatory Orchestra, Conservatory Wind Symphony in conjunction with the University Singers, and the Volker Brass quintet as part of the event.  

On Friday October 12th, members of the UMKC Horn studio made their way to Wichita State University for the 2018-2019 IHS Midsouth Horn Workshop. The RooHorns attending the workshop listened to recitals, participated in masterclasses, toured the various exhibits, and competed in the orchestral excerpts and solo competitions. On October 22nd,  Corbin Wagner, Associate Professor of Horn at Michigan State University, visited UMKC to work with the Horn Studio on our upcoming performance at Crescendo! and give a masterclass, working with a handful of students on various selections of solo and orchestral horn repertoire.  

The University of Missouri-Kansas City Conservatory of Music and Dance will have two fellowship opportunities for incoming graduate horn students. The Volker Brass fellowship brass quintet and Plaza Winds fellowship wind quintet will each be taking auditions for the horn position.

10/02/2018 - UMKC DMA student Lauren Harris has won 2nd Horn with the Saint Joseph Symphony and has been asked to perform with Bruce Vantine's Cornerstone Chorale and Brass on a month-long tour. Congratulations Lauren!

June 11, 2018 – UMKC DMA student and member of the Plaza Winds, Emily Schaefer, has won the position of 4th horn with the Wichita Symphony Orchestra. Congratulations Emily!

Steve Lewis, Jr. (MM conducting, 2012) has been awarded the EAMA/Florence Gould Foundation Michael Iovenko Fellowship to study conducting in Paris, Summer 2016 as part of the European American Musical Alliance at the historic Schola Cantorum. The month-long program is patterned after the teachings of the legendary Nadia Boulanger with many classes lead by her former students. April 17, 2016 - Professor Lanette Compton and her "Power Babies" (8 of her finest students) visited us in Kansas City this past weekend to spend some time meeting each other, learning from each other, and eating KC BBQ together!
