Book published by BkMk honored by International Latino Book Award


The 21st annual International Latino Book Awards awarded a book published by BkMk Press at their ceremony in Los Angeles on Sept. 21. Fable of the Pack-Saddle Child by Mia Leonin, a Missouri native who now teaches at the University of Miami, won second place in the poetry category. Leonin appeared in Kansas City last fall, where she spoke to UMKC Latinx Studies students, read at Writers Place, and led a Cuban bookmaking workshop at Mid-America Nazarene University together with the book’s illustrator, Nereida García Ferraz.

The International Latino Book Awards are held annually by Latino Literacy Now, a California 501c3 non-profit, in conjunction with Las Comadres para las Americas, & Reforma: The National Association to Promote Library and Information Services to Latinos and the Spanish-Speaking (an affiliate of the American Library Association).
