Kansas City, Mo. – The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) College of Arts and Sciences’ Department of Art and Art History will present Casey May McGuire as part of its Visiting Artist and Scholar lecture series at 10 a.m. on Thursday, Sept. 22 at the Fine Arts Building, Room 106, 5015 Holmes St., Kansas City, Mo. Her presentation is titled “Uncomfortable Bodies: Installation and the Visitor”.

Heavily influenced by her father’s work as a taxidermist, McGuire’s pieces examine the problematic nature of artifice and perfection. McGuire uses objects that have been cast aside in her suburban neighborhood to recall memories of a rural childhood often surrounded by death. McGuire received her BFA cum laude in Studio Arts from Alfred University and her MFA in 2007 from the University of Colorado, Boulder. McGuire’s most recent solo exhibition was held in 2010 at the Urban Institute for Contemporary Arts in Grand Rapids, Mich. an assistant professor at the University of West Georgia she was featured in the 2009 issue of Sculpture Magazine.
