UMKC School of Nursing announces latest NCLEX pass rate

Since 2006, the percentage of graduates from the UMKC School of Nursing pre-licensure nursing program passing the National Council Licensure Examination (NCLEX) on first attempt has been higher than the national and Missouri averages. The graduates in 2011 were no exception with a pass rate of 90.32%. [See chart below.] The national average was 87.9% and the Missouri average was 90.2%. The NCLEX is a computerized, comprehensive exam that “measures competencies needed to perform safely and effectively as a newly licensed, entry level nurse.” [Read more →]

UMKC Theatre & KC Actors Theatre team for Canadian play, Billy Bishop Goes to War

Billy Bishop Goes to War, a Canadian play and one of that country’s most widely-produced theatre productions, is coming to the Liberty Memorial, Feb. 10 – 26, 2012. Co-produced by UMKC Theatre and the Kansas City Actors Theatre, this contemporary classic uses music and stagecraft to examine what heroism means…and what it takes to turn an innocent into a warrior.

Former UMKC Dean and Professor named “Icons of Education” by Ingrams Magazine

Since 2009, Ingram’s Magazine online has recognized “the best of what education in this region has to offer.” In this annual feature, the magazine spotlights nine highly qualified administrators, researchers and classroom instructors.

This year two of the “Icons of Education” are the retired UMKC Dean of the School of Education, Linda Edwards, and former professor of molecular biology, Virginia Ryder.

Dear Colleagues:

We are writing to let you know we are assessing the budgetary impact of the recent recommendation that our state appropriations be cut for FY2013 by 12.5 percent, or $50 million. This represents a reduction that will pose significant financial challenges for our students and their families as well as our university colleagues. It also will affect our ability to pursue our unique statewide responsibilities of teaching, research, economic development and service in the same manner as we have in the past.

Scanners replace UMKC Libraries’ photocopiers

UMKC Libraries has announced the installation of Knowledge Imaging Center (KIC) scanning stations.

Using KIC scanners is easy. Capture digital images of research and study materials, then either email them to yourself or save them on a portable flash drive. Scanners can handle virtually any size book, magazine, journal, newspaper, photo or other material from postage stamp size up to 11 x 17 inches in black and white or full color. The images and even text from PDF files can then be pasted into reports or research papers. [Read more →]
