Listen to the story here.

It’s no secret that America has an unhealthy relationship with food. One third of United States children and two thirds of adults are overweight or obese; at the same time, the food industry expertly markets foods that are high in sugar, salt and fat.

On a recent segment of KCUR-FM’s Central Standard, researchers from the University of Missouri-Kansas City talked about why weight problems aren’t just physical.

Amanda Bruce, an assistant professor and childhood obesity specialist at UMKC; and Jennifer D. Lundgren, associate professor at UMKC; discussed the role that psychology plays in childhood and adult obesity.
