Year-Six student Neil Thakur will accept award at international RSNA meeting
The Radiological Society of North America has selected University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Medicine student Neil Thakur, MS 6, to make an oral presentation and receive a 2010 Trainee Research Prize for medical students during the 2010 RSNA Scientific Assembly and Annual Meeting, Nov. 28-Dec. 3, in Chicago.
The RSNA Scientific Program Committee selected Thakur to receive the award for his research project, “Neuroimaging Finding in Neonates Undergoing Whole Body Hypothermia for Hypoxic/Ischemic Brain Injury: Preliminary Findings.” The RSNA presents awards annually to radiology residents, fellows and medical students in various categories of radiology research.
Thakur conducted his research this past spring with Lisa Lowe, M.D., F.A.A.P., professor and chair of radiology at the School of Medicine. After his abstract was accepted for an oral presentation at the RSNA meetings, Thakur was invited to submit an extended, 2,000-word report of the study. That report was chosen as a winner of the Trainee Research Prize.
“This is a very prestigious honor to have his abstract selected as one of the winners,” Lowe said. “I am very proud of Neil. This is the highest honor for a medical student at the RSNA.”
The RSNA is the largest radiology society in the world and draws nearly 60,000 people each year to its annual international forum that includes peer-reviewed research, state of the art technology and educational opportunities for radiologists, medical physicists and allied scientists.
