Nationally-known author Albert Goldbarth speaks June 24

KANSAS CITY, MO. – Nationally-known author Albert Goldbarth will speak about writing at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 24 at Diastole, 2501 Holmes St., Kansas City, Mo. Goldbarth will present the free keynote address for the New Letters Weekend Writing Conference, an event supported by the University of Missouri-Kansas City‘s (UMKC) Bernardin-Haskell Lecture fund. The conference will run through June 26 and will feature instruction on writing plays, TV and movie scripts, poetry, fiction and journalism. Students can enroll for noncredit or college credit. “In 35 years of writing, Albert Goldbarth has amassed a body of work as substantial and intelligent as that of anyone in his generation,” said William Doreski of The Harvard Review.

Goldbarth is the Adele M. Davis Distinguished Professor of Humanities at Wichita State University in Wichita, Kan., where he has taught since 1987. The only poet to have received the National Book Critics Circle Award twice, Goldbarth’s work includes 30 books in print and some of today’s most anthologized poems and essays.
