Mexican politician presents “A Political Model for the Current Economic Crisis” Porfirio Muñoz Ledo speaks at UMKC April 25

Porfirio Muñoz Ledo – a leader of Mexico’s political left –will present “A Political Model for the Current Economic Crisis” at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, April 25 at the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) School of Law E.E. (Tom) Thompson Courtroom, 500 E. 52nd St., Kansas City, Mo. At 1:30 p.m., a reception with drinks and refreshments will precede his speech. The UMKC Economics Club, Social Science Consortium, Center for Full Employment and Price Stability and Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán are sponsoring the event, which is free and open to the public.

Ledo has served as Mexico’s Secretary of Labor, Secretary of Education, Ambassador to the European Union and Ambassador to the United Nations. The former Mexican presidential candidate and co-founder of the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD) coordinates Mexico’s Broad Progressive Front (Frente Amplio Progresista) and writes a newspaper column. On Televisión Mexiquense, Ledo hosts a program about issues important to achieving democracy.

Ledo received a law degree at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and a Ph.D. in political science and constitutional law at the University of Paris.
