The University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) Office of the Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Enrollment Management has named Bridgett Johnson a 2009 Honor Award recipient, one of 10 graduating seniors commended for both academic achievements and participation in programs outside the classroom.

A recipient of the Chancellor’s Scholarship, Johnson graduates with a bachelor of arts degree in political science and plans to attend law school. She would like to combine her legal education with a career in the United States Air Force and, after retirement, a possible appointment to the United States Supreme Court.

The honor award program was established in 1975 to recognize graduating seniors who excelled in academic achievement, involvement in university programs and service to the campus and surrounding community.

Johnson was president of the Student Government Association and was a peer coach. She was a member of the mock trial and debate teams, and earned recognition in college debate tournaments. She helped high school debaters learn to compete, and planted bulbs as part of UMKC’s Tulips on Troost endeavor.
