UMKC College of Arts and Sciences’ Black Studies Program co-sponsors exhibit with Soka Gakkai International-USA

An internationally-acclaimed peace exhibit – “From a Culture of Violence to a Culture of Peace: Transforming the Human Spirit” – will be on display until Saturday, Oct. 10 at Pierson Auditorium in the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) University Center, 5000 Rockhill Rd. The exhibition examines the root causes of war, the dangers of nuclear proliferation and how cultural and educational exchanges can sow seeds of peace. The University Center is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Sunday, although individual hours for Pierson Auditorium vary.

Co-sponsored by the University of Missouri-Kansas City College of Arts and Sciences’ Black Studies Department and the Kansas City chapter of Soka Gakkai International-USA, the exhibition strives to promote the values of peace, culture and education and engage the community in dialogues about how to create peace and lasting change. Created in 2007 by Soka Gakkai International (SGI) – the parent organization of SGI-USA – the exhibit also offers concrete ways people can contribute to creating a culture of peace.
