Extension seeking input from UMKC faculty on Feb. 9

Session at 9 a.m. in Pierson Auditorium

University of Missouri Extension and Engagement wants to know what UMKC faculty see as the major challenges and issues facing individuals, families, businesses and communities across our state.

“Your insights and opinions are essential to helping us develop meaningful, actionable programs and priorities to serve our state in the years ahead,” said Marshall Stewart, vice chancellor for extension and engagement at Mizzou.

To this end, MU Extension and Engagement will host “community conversations” on the four University of Missouri System campuses and Lincoln University in late January and early February to gather faculty and staff input.  Coinciding with these campus events will be a series of community conversations this winter at more than 20 locations across the state.

Using a proven, structured process for large group conversations, they will ask faculty to share their thoughts about this question: “What are the crucial issues and challenges in our communities that deserve close attention in the next three to five years?”  These local forums will be a way for participants to connect; talk about future challenges and opportunities, and tell MU Extension and Engagement how they can help you better serve the people of Missouri.

For more than 100 years, extension services have connected the innovative research and expertise of Missouri’s land grant university to actionable information that Missouri residents of all ages and backgrounds can use. Programs, based on current research from the UM System and Lincoln University always aim to improve citizens’ quality of life — whether strengthening economic development, scientific enhancement, agriculture and natural resources or developing youth, adult and community leadership potential.

The campus community conversation at UMKC will be held 9 a.m. to noon Thursday, Feb. 9 in Pierson Auditorium in the Atterbury Student Success Center. RSVP is required for the facilitators to adequately prepare. Please go to this web link to RSVP for the event: https://extweb.missouri.edu/NewWebReg/Login.aspx?uid=3&pid=128556
