Bloch Executive Education Programs Drive Ranking Placement

The Henry W. Bloch School of Management at the University of Missouri-Kansas City has been ranked No. 6 in the nation for excellence in leadership programs among educational institutions according HR.com’s Leadership 500 Excellence Awards.

The rankings were determined by the success of two Bloch Executive Education programs: The Cerner Certificate in Healthcare Leadership and the Physicians Leadership Program, which is in collaboration with the UMKC School of Medicine.

The award recognizes the top universities in the nation for their strategies and solutions in leadership development. Award outcome is based on peer and end-user ratings, among other criteria. Out of 152 schools ranked, The Bloch School surpassed 146, including Drexell, Cornell, Dartmouth, Georgetown, Princeton and Harvard.

Bloch Executive Education launched the Cerner Certificate in Healthcare Leadership Program in 2011. The certificate is a custom corporate program developed in response to the changing healthcare landscape that caused organizations like Cerner to seek leadership training for key leaders. The training would help them expand their knowledge of health care drivers, trends, policies and changes impacting their industry.

Since its inception, the highly selective program has expanded to include participants from other hospitals and healthcare organizations, including Children’s Mercy Hospital, Loma Linda Hospital. The most recent class had 62 graduates.

Graduates of the 2012 Cerner Certificate in Healthcare Leadership Program proudly wave their UMKC pennants.

“Providing this type of quality education to the business community in Kansas City is core to our mission, said Kimberly Young, executive director, Bloch Executive Education. “Our regional organizations demand and deserve the highest quality professional development possible and we consider it our duty to provide that through experiential learning, discussion, and cohort based professional development.  This leads to true transformation—not only for our client organizations, but for the community.”

The Physicians Leadership Program, now in its second year, is a collaboration between the Bloch School and the UMKC School of Medicine. The program provides healthcare management skills that prepare physicians to successfully fulfill the leadership requirements of health care delivery. The most recent class had 16 graduates.

“These programs were developed based on the specific requests of the Kansas City professional community,” Bloch School Dean Dave Donnelly said. “It’s among our top priorities at Bloch to be the trusted partner Kansas City organizations rely on to build programs that create stronger leadership – leadership that can navigate change and build sustainable companies.”
