Asst. Prof. DeeAnna Hiett and students lauded at American College Dance Festival
Conservatory assistant professor of dance DeeAnna Hiett led the Conservatory Dance Division to receive the top honor at the American College Dance Festival, Central Region and won the privilege to perform at the National American College Dance Festival, May 24-27, 2012 at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, Washington DC.
Professor Hiett’s choreographic work, Without a Word, was first selected by three renowned dance adjudicators to appear in the festival’s gala performance. From the 36 pieces presented at the festival, 11 pieces were chosen for performance at the gala and two were then selected for the Kennedy Center performance. About 20 Conservatory dance major students performed the work at the festival.
At the same competition, Conservatory senior Kaitlin Heibel received gala performance honors for her choreographic work, Paradox.
Local dance fans had an opportunity to see Without a Word and other Conservatory dance performances at the Conservatory’s Spring Dance Concert at White Recital Hall. Photographer Janet Ann Rogers captured these images from Without a Word at the dress rehearsal for the concert.
